What is Ag Literacy

DID YOU KNOW...

  • Less than 2% of the population is involved in production agriculture
  • That 2% is responsible for providing the food and fiber for all the rest of us.
  • The average American is 3-4 generation removed from the farm and ranch.
  • It is important that people have a basic understanding of the food and fiber system.

Agricultural literacy helps dispel misconceptions and provides accurate information to those who are so far removed and disconnected from their food and fiber.

An agriculturally literate person understands the relationship between agriculture and the environment, food, fiber and energy, animals, lifestyle, the economy and technology.
